retreat :)

When on our retreat in , we were told that everyone has a monster and like Saint Kevin we must be -friend that monster . The retreat taught me a lot but to be-friend the monster inside yourself - that sentence stood out to me the most . The whole day was inspiring and en lighting it was peaceful and relaxing . I really enjoyed the retreat that i went on with my class and i really enjoyed the messages that i learned on the retreat .

We went to Glendalough for the retreat i recommend going there to everyone , you will discover so much .

PhotoGraphy :)

This blog is going to focus on the national geographic , There is a national geographic channel and there is a national geographic magazine - one for children and one for adults . The national geographic (in their words) is "inspiring to people to care about the planet since 1888" . By reading / watching the national geographis you can learn so much about so much from the "the Genographic project" -  this is a "landmark study of the human journey " to learing about pirals that have been found on mars !! there is a huge amount of interesting inforation in the national georaphic , i learned the information above by looking at their website http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ the site is definitley worth looking at . There is such a wide variety of topics however my favourite thing to look at has to be the photos taken - they are beyond amazing . The national geographic do a thing called the photo of the day . The photo of the day can be seen on the national geographic website . There are so many photos of geography and nature it is impossible to pick a favourite . To 
look at the photo of the day all you have to do is go to the national geographic website (the link is above ) click photography than click photo of the day , you can also click photo tips - this is really helpful and if you follow the tips you are sure to get a good picture . Not only is there a photo of the day but there is also different photo galleries e.g there is the best of March , the best of July - the best of ...- all the months in the year , on this website you are pretty spoilt for choice when looking for a nice photo . Someday i hope that one of my photos will be good enough to be the photo  of the day till then i will just appreciate the ones that are already there :) as i said before i can pick a favourite but here are a few photos that i really like :) .    All these photos were taken from the national geographic website  http://www.nationalgeographic.com

Geography = Photography :)

This blog focuses on the photos taken by Charlie Waite - i choose to focus on his works because Waite is associated with taking photos in countries all around the world . I think it is interesting to see how the landscape in each countries differ .

So this is a second blog about landscape photographers , this blog focuses on the photos taken by Marc Adamus - his pictures are so amazing that they don't even look real !!! . they are magnificent ... i think that his pictures show just how beautiful nature really is . I linked the pictures he has taken to geography by focusing on one picture in particular called "Under the lights" - this is one of my favourite photos , i love the colours and i like the way it looks so unusual . The photo was taken in Mount Monolith, Tombstone Range, Yukon . I had never seen a picture like this - the icicles are huge !Every thing about it is unbelievable .

geography =photography .

So one of my favourite hobbies is photography . I love to take pictures of everything ! . My pictures are not that intresting and are mostly pictures of friends and family but i do like taking pictures of landscape and nature - that is how i linked my hobby to geography . One of my favourite landscape photographers are Jim Brandenburg ( from the prairies of Minnesota ) you can look at his pictiures in his online gallery http://jimbrandenburg.com/ the pictures are amazing they are so much better then mine ! . I love his pictures so much that i can't pick a favourite thats why i put up the link so you can see decide yourself what is your favourite image .
A lot of Jims pictures are of lanndscape - for example monuntais ,pictures of nature and differnt types of trees . it is intresting to see how is images are so differnt depending on the country and area were the pictures were taken .
I am going to write blogs about other landscape photographers and will be showeing you some of my favourite pictures they have taken .

wham!!!!!!!!!

So tomorrow it is the music night . Music night in our school is when a class group , a band or a soloist sing or play an instrument . The other two classes are performing "shake it out" together - they have some AMAZING singers so that will be really good ,my class are singing wham wake me up before you go go - it is such a fun upbeat song i mean listening to it just makes me happy ! . Hopefully it will be good , i will let you know how we get on :)

I'm never going to be in the army

Well yesterday we went to brave force , we did this army assault course .... it was so hard . We had to go under thees tunnel things - in the mud . We had to jump over hurdles that were taller than me ! . We had to go through muddy water like a million times .. the water went passed my chin !! the smell was horrific it was disgusting . We had to climb up things that were really high , I'm afraid of heights so that scary . Its hard to describe the stuff that we did . The best thing is to visit www.braveforce.ie then you can see first hard what we went through . Even though it was really disgusting i have to admit I had fun ...sort of :) . I do think that everyone should do it because after ward , after the shower and when you can feel your arms and legs again you are glad that you did it ! i was anyway :) ......I still don't think that i  will join the army any time soon  .

sometimes in April and hotel Rwanda

So this week we learned about conflict and watched two movies. one was called hotel Rwanda and the other was called Sometimes in April . The conflict in the movies was devastating . The movies taught me a lot but I don't think i would like to watch them again , because they were so sad . what was happening in Rwanda was horrific . I was really upset to learn about what the people of Rwanda suffered through  . 

Drumming

This week a man , i can not remember his name , but Emma r says his name was Dave , so I'm going to take her word for it . he came in a gave us a workshop on African drumming . We spent the day playing drums like the jimbi - probably spelled wrong . It was so much fun we learned a lot of cool rhythms and stuff and they actually sounded really good . I really enjoyed it .

work experience .....

Last week we all went on work experience , again . this time I went to a hotel . In the hotel i was a waitress . All day i was giving people coffe and tea , and serving food - that wasn't bad , i liked that part of work experience .
What I did not like was cleaning . in the hotel i had to scarpe filthy plates into a bin like thing , i also had to put people's USED tissues  into another bin ....it was disgusting to say the least .
I also had to go into what was like a shed to get ice ...it was cold but it was grand , i didn't mind doing it .I had to set tables - i liked this i mean i like making things look nice so that was good thing  .
 I spent a lot of time polishing glasses , knives , spoons - desert and soup spoons and forks . There was a lot of things to polish . I mean it was ok but I was on my own doing it and i like working with people  .
Back to the positieves the people were so nice , they have to be the nicest staff ever .
 Another positieve was there was a wedding on , i didnt get to see the wedding or the wedding dress - but having to geting  ready for the wedding was a great buzz .I would have loven if i fot to help organize the flowers and the colour scheme of the wedding , but i was happy enough just having everything perfect for it .
By the end of work experience i learned the hotel work wouldn't really be my calling , but being a wedding planner could be fun .
If i was offered a summer job in a hotel , i would take it cause overall there was more positieves the negatieves .

round towers , wells and starbucks !!

This week we are all doing a project about saint Brigid , We are making websites and blogs and everything we are hoping that our project will help people learn all about saint Brigid and her life . On Tuesday we all of ty went to kildare town , there we went to saint brigid's well (both of them ) we visited Brigid's catherdral and learned all about the history of Kildare including the round  towers after our pillgrimage we went to Kildare village , most of us went to starbucks (i got the nicest hot chocolate ) . It was a really fun day and i learned a lot ! .

Spring is a'coming

Spring is tomorrow ! . Come tomorrow we don't have to wear gloves , hats ,scarves and heavy coats -this isn't really true , considering it is Ireland we will probably still have to wear them . Tomorrow is not just the beginning of Spring it is also Saint Brigids day . Saint Brigid is Known as Kildare's saint .Our school is in Kildare and most of the people in our school are from Kildare so saint Brigid's day is a big deal here to show everyone just how much of a big deal it is we have a blog all about saint Brigid .There is a ton of info about saints Brigid .The blog is definitely worth looking at .

death in the theatre

Today all of transition year went to Mullingar (Niall Horan is from here :) ) .We went to see plays , two of the transition year class's performed plays. My class( class fódla ) were the audience - the best audience ever !!
The plays were really good both class's did two plays , one based on a poem - one class did "Titch Miller" and the other class did "Midterm break" . For their second play they wrote their own script . - You could not tell that they wrote the script because they were so professional .The plays were all really upsetting (in a good way they were supposed to be sad ) - in every play a character had died.
I thought all the plays were amazing , the acting was brilliant - i really felt for all the characters , the music was affective . Everything was great i had a really great day and i would watch all the plays all over again , i can honestly say that everyone one who was involved in the plays did a fantastic job .

Young Scientist

Even though our project didn't get through to young scientist  , i get to go to the RDS with the rest of Ty to look at the projects that did get through . I am looking forward to it not just because its a day off school but also because i will get to see my friends project that did get through and you always get loads of free stuff at the young scientist  , it is a really fun day so i can't wait .!! :)
